The most important thing we learned yesterday at the Dave Ramsey event was that you must GIVE first, then SAVE, and then pay bills. Well we've been saving and paying bills... but we hadn't been giving nearly what we should.
I had heard about Compassion a few months ago from another blogger (Kelly's Korner), and was compelled to sponsor a child. I just never got around to telling Chris about it, until yesterday. We were trying to decide how we were going to start giving more, when I was reminded of my want to sponsor a child. Compassion is a Christian child development advocacy dedicated to helping children in poverty. They work in 26 countries and, through child-sponsorship, help provide clean food and water, health care, and educational opportunities, as well as Christian education.
So today, we sponsored a child. Her name is Gisela and she is six years old. The monetary donation to sponsor a child is minimal when you look at it. For us, it basically comes out to one less dining out a month. A small price to pay to help a child in need.
We will get a welcome packet with all her information within two weeks, and we are so excited to write her for the first time. For now, here is a link to some information about our child.
Again, it's only one less dinner at a restaurant. :)

Yay!
